Staying in Contact

It's often hard to stay in contact with friends and family if they move away after college, or change cities to pursue a career. Fortunately, we have social media to make us feel like we still have a strong connection to these people.

What's unfortunate is that this often hinders us from actually reaching out and making an effort to see each other face to face. I'm not saying that the digital age is hindering development and direct human interaction. I do believe it has changed the way we see people and our connections with those people.

I'm not going to lie, since I have graduated I haven't made as much of an effort as I should when staying connected to the people that I care about. There are times when I scroll through Snapchat and Instagram and see all the fun and amazing things people are doing.

The reality of it all is that people only post the highlights of their lives, they post what they think people want to see. I'm guilty of it myself. I think what we need to realize is that we have to make more moments that are our own, instead of watching other people make their moments.

Take my advice and reach out to a friend you haven't talked to in awhile. If it's someone who lives far away, dedicate a weekend to go and visit. If it's someone who is documenting their fitness journey on social media and you want to show your support, ask them to go for a run or workout together.. this might lead to something more substantial down the road.

Whatever you do, take the chance of asking someone to do something. Otherwise, you might feel like you've lost that friendship and can't reach out later on in the future.

Two words.... Be Proactive!
